I’m not sure of the definition of middle-age. We could be talking 50 with all the people living to be 100.
I say go for it.
A course in defensive driving may be a priority for you. It might save a little on car insurance and a few bent fenders.

Hey Roz, congrats to you! It’s never too late.

Find out where a local SCCA track is in your county/state. They often have track days where they offer driver training in a controlled environment. It’s really awesome because you’ll get professional drivers teaching you how to drive fast and corner and you’ll do it on a track so you don’t have to worry about a bunch of other drivers who don’t know that you are learning to handle your car. Everyone else on the track will be doing the same thing!

I am a 50-something gal myself and I drive a ’72 Dodge Dart with a kick-butt 340 that gets on down the road pretty fast. The steering and control is dicey compared to current cars but it sure is a lot of fun to feel the power in the pedal.

I’m sure they will be something near you that is similar. Enjoy your muscle car!

In stock form the fox body mustang is not very powerful so no worries about that. The biggest issue with them is driving in the rain. They fish tail very easily if you don’t know what you are doing. My advise is on a rainy day go to an empty parking lot and see what the car does when you accelerate and turn. Do a little fish tailing and you will be able to fell when the car is at the limit of traction so you can back off before you do it on the road.

you’ll be fine just apply the throttle gently on raining days and around corners sounds like your afraid of it.good luck

just remember, you control the car. you may not have control over the gas pedal at first, but you will have ample amounts over the brake. until you get used to the car, only drive it when the streets are dry. drive it short distances at first too. i work with beautiful muscle cars everyday and absolutely love them! have fun with it and be that sexy mama!

Of the many problems that plague an 88 mustang too much power isn’t one of them.

i think that as long as your following the law (ie speed limit excetera) then all will be fine, you will look totally stylish in your 88 mustang im sure of it, lol, and as far as the confidence, i dont think there is special training you can take, if you feel you need it, i think you can take the classroom portion of drivers edd again if you feel you need it, but i am still nervous driving too, but my nervousness decreases with the more driving experience i get, so mabey all you need is someone to drive with you and telling you that you are doing great! =] good luck!

It doesn’t have a mind of it’s own you drive it so if you don’t drive like a maniac you’ll be fine.
