Can ANYONE, tell me what is the GREATEST MUSCLE CAR ever made ?

Zodiac *sagittarian* Man asked:

Hello world. My favorite muscle car of all, is the 1968 Chevy
Camaro. It is darn near perfect. And the follow ups were
just as good, if not better. But yeah, Camaros are hot !
Did you see the new ones, yet. Ha. Well, anyway. What
is the greatest muscle car ever made in the history of cars ?

Most enthusiasts would not categorize the Camaro as a muscle car, but as a pony car (competitor to the Ford Mustang).

The generally accepted definition of a muscle car is a huge engine stuffed under the hood of a mid-size car. Under this definition, the 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner with the 426 hemi is probably king of the mountain, but rivals like the 454-cube Chevelle SS and the Pontiac Judge GTO would not be far off the mark.

Actually most car enthusiasts believe that the 1960’s and 1970’s cars were the birth of the muscle car pertaining the the GTO, Plymouth Road Runner, Dodge Dart Coronet (440), the Chevelle, and the Pontiac Tempest. This I believe is wrong and go back to the 1950’s especially 1955 and 1956. Look at these 2 models the 1955 Studebaker Silverhawk and the 1956 Studebaker Goldenhawk. If any of you that have parents that are in their mid to early 60s, especially if your dad was a gear head and raced his car on the weekend or whenever he had the chance to race it, they will know that these are the first muscle cars to hit the road and that they were to be feared when you raced them. These cars had 2 engines in them a Ford 289 or a Ford 429. Most of the vehicles that were built in the Midwest had the Ford 429 engine and had 425BHP. Therefore these are the first muscle cars.

The Ford Thunderbolt - hands down.
A vehicle specifically manufactured for drag racing - a stripped down Fairlane with several fiberglass body panels, battery in the trunk, ram air inlets through the headlight openings and a Nascar 427 Cubic Inch engine.

    i agree with leanne ……
maybe not the best looking muscle car ever built but the fastest ever built and nascar proven!!!
banned second year from nascar for chrysler and chevy couldnt catch it not even the 68 hemi dart put together by the backyard mechanics the 427 was as fast as the 426 hemi and the car was 40% fiberglass from fords factory. it was used in road courses the year after it got took out of nascar again banned from track.
most say 426 hemi is the biggerest engine built and worth the most not true the 427 thunderbolt fairlane is the highest priced collector’s item. (a true thunderbolt) matching numbers
