Need Help Deciding On My First Car?
Jack Shmit asked:
Well I had a 1968 mustang that was supposed to be my first car but it had a bad frame and it really wasnt worth the money to fix it so now im looking for a new car. I have $4000 and I just need a starter car. I would prefer a older muscle car and I can work on them, im not that good with newer cars because theres so many electronics but I can do some things. So what would be a good car to start out with.

With the gas prices, I would go for a newer car with a smaller engine. Trust me, I’ve been there done that, the muscle car thing is a lot of fun until you have to pay for gas. However if I had to suggest one, it would have to be the ’68 Camaro. Good luck.

did ya every look at maybe 1970 – 1974 -2 dr -chevy nova,or plymouth duster? Get 1 with a good body ,stock v-8,and put a set of headers, new dual exaust and a nice set of rims on it !for $4000 you might be able to put in a nice stereo too.It will look and sound good,Trust me your friends will love to be seen in it and you’ll more than likely get a “thumbs up” from us “old people” !

Muscle cars are not cost effective. If you were a mechanic and you had alot more than $4000 OK, but you need something that is not worn out or has been abused, personally I would rather buy a car that had a trailer hitch, than an old muscle car. Find the the car that is in the best condition of any $4000 car available. The best bet is buy a car that belonged to a retired grandma who just died. ,unless you are into cars that cost too much to fix like that mustang.
