What is this car?

klimlover asked:

so a guy a few roads over has a car that I have no idea what it is which is unusual, i have a fairly good knowledge if classic cars, so i'm wonderin if you guys can help.

Its a definite classic, probably at least 20 years old, and the one distinctive feature that I notied about it is that the grill has the "SS" logo on it just like the old chevelle's had. Obviously this car isn't a chevelle, but has a body that is similar to an old camero or firebird. I haven't been ableto see too much of the car as it is always in a garage, but it;s definite a body style that I'm unfamiliar with.

any ideaS?

There are quite a few Camaro models, one of which seems to be pretty rare today (sorry I don’t know the model year). Try a google (oops, I mean yahoo) search on Camaro and look at the different years.

It’s gotta be a Camaro, he must have modified the body a bit.

it could be an older model camaro ,or a Monte Carlo SS,and even a nova ss,Chevy has lot of models that had the SS logo on them,it could also be an Chevy impala ,an older model one,id go up and ask him what it was,id tell my curiosity was getting the better of me ,and i had to know,he would probably be glad to show you what it is,good luck with it hope this helps.

As it happens, this is a very common designation. Chevy used the SS on just about every model in their lineup. From your description, I’m guessing that it’s an SS Camaro (photo below). Buick occasionally has made cars with an SS designation. Holden (GM Australia) used the designation, as well. Alfa made an SS, or “Sprint Speziale”, Jaguar was originally known as SS Cars, and their hottest model in the 50′s was the XKSS. Do you have a photo?
